The Casio STP
Water resistant to 10 bar, 100 meters, or 330 feet. The Seiko Velatura line is designed to be a marine and yachting collection. While two Velaturas have yachting timers (the SPC005 and the SPC007), the affiliation of the SRH005 to the world of yachting is a bit more indirect. The movement can be wound without pulling out the crown which keeps the internals of the watch safe from moisture. Additionally, the bezel screws, crown guards, caseback, and the elegant design of the dial are all reminiscent of yachting instruments. So far, I have found that people are either drawn to the unique bracelet design of the SRH005, or they don't care for it. Very bright LumiBrite paint on the hour hand, minute hand, and on the hour indices. Recessed reset button in case the integrated circuit ever needs a quick reboot. Automatic hand alignment which ensures that the power indicator hand is always accurate (calibration occurs every 24 hours). Personally, I love it. I love distinguishing and unique watches, and the black urethane that covers the center links of the bracelet really make it stand out. Maybe it's the suggestion of a checkered pattern or a racing stripe, but it also somehow conveys the sense of speed to me.The Seiko Velatura SRH005 is a big, elegant, and satisfying watch. If all you're looking for is something to tell time, the Velatura is obviously overkill.
The Seiko Blue Monster
Moving from right to left, it indicates local tide height based on latitude and the intertidal interval. Since tides vary with local geography, you can calibrate the watch to match your local cycle. This Oceanus (which I'll call the 5 Motor Tide Graph) is similar to the OCW600TDA-1AV previously reviewed, however the 5 Motor Tide Graph seems a little more geared toward the worldwide business traveler; not only can it receive atomic time calibration signals in the US, but also in Japan, Germany, and England. The feature of the Oceanus 5 Motor Tide Graph that I find most interesting is, well, It sounds complicated, but once you understand it and see it work, it's pretty intuitive, and even a little addictive.Seiko seems to be well aware of the effect Kinetic movements have on us as they refer to their new Direct Drive as "emotional technology" the tide graph. At the top of the multi-function dial at the 3 o'clock position is a small tide chart. The solar panel is actually a ring around the dial, in a complimentary shade of silicon-chip blue. What sort of globe-trotting person needs a tide graph? My personal theory is new managers who still surf, sail, or dive. 5-band radio reception.100M (330 feet) of water resistance.World time with time zone swapping (easily swap your primary time zone with your secondary time zone, and vice versa).Subtle date at the 4:30 position (nicely unobtrusive, but there when you need it).Retrograde day indicator in addition to the date.
Review of the Casio Pathfinder PAW1300
The main advantage of having a watch with an E Ink dial is that you can easily change the look depending on what you're doing, where you're going, or what you're wearing. The Phosphor E Ink watch lets you choose from among three different hour index configurations, three different date and time modes, and either a "positive" mode (black on white), or a negative mode (white on black). The past few years have seen steady growth in the diameter of men's watches. In the 1950s, a dress watch was expected to be slim and small, the normal size being somewhere between 32 and 35mm wide. These days, anything less than 38mm is considered dainty, and even 50mm and beyond isn't unheard of.However, not everyone wants such a large watch, or for that matter, the bold styling that often accompanies it. These more traditional men seem to be the target market for Seiko's recently introduced line of four mechanical dress watches, all with classic styling and very conservative 36mm cases. They are based on the new 23-jewel 6R15B movement with both hand-winding and hacking, and are known as the Seiko Mechanical line.Features of the new Seiko Mechanical line include:6R15 23J Automatic movement with hand winding and hack function. Unfortunately, no mode removes the E-Ink branding at the top of the dial — space which could be better used to allow the simultaneous display of the date and the digital time.Features of the Phosphor E Ink watch include: 14 different high-contrast dial configurations made possible by E Ink technology.
The Ultimate Casio Pathfinder: the PAW1200T
The "Almost" portion of the title referred to the unfortunate fact that it was only compatible with Japanese atomic clocks. Casio has finally come through for us Yanks, however, and according to this press release, the PAW1200 series will not only work with the US atomic time signal, but it will actually be sold here in the US, as well. Good for me, bad for my Japanese connection who won't make any money off me this time. I haven't seen the final specifications on these watches yet, but I would expect the following features: Atomic timekeeping (obviously). Solar powered with at least a 20-month power reserve, maybe better. Thermometer which will actually convert the temperature into fahrenheit. Compass. Barometer. Barometric altimeter. It's certainly the most subtle and unrecognizable G-Shock currently in the lineup, and most importantly, the slimmest. My wife calls it my Battlestar Galactica watch because the unconventional shape is similar to the shape *** will apparently assume if the world is ever destroyed by Cylons (of course, I'm talking about the new Battlestar Galactica). The extremely slim and lightweight design is really what sets the GW056A apart. In terms of features, you'll notice that it's on par with all my favorite G-Shocks: Atomic calibration (US and Japan). Solar powered. Shock resistant (naturally). Water resistant to 200 meters, or about 650 feet. Automatic calendar. Electroluminescent backlight with auto EL function (meaning it can automatically illuminate when tilted to about 40° in the dark). World time (48 cities, 29 time zones, and automatic daylight savings adjustment).

I'll admit that Watch Report tends to be a little biased toward men's watches
I'll admit that Watch Report tends to be a little biased toward men's watches, but being a pretty big G-Shock fan in general, I have to make the occasional exceptionfor Baby-G's. If you're a guy, and you're about to head off to Google to searchfor a more manly watch, aren't you forgetting that it's almost the holidays, and that Casio Baby-G watches make wonderful and affordable gifts? As far as I know, these are the first G-Shocks (Baby or otherwise) to appear asanything other than round (or roundish) since the initial square G-Shocks were introducedback in 1983. They rounded out in 1987, and have remained that way until now. Notonly are these newest Baby-G's square, but they're colorful, sophisticated, andfun. In the words of David Johnson, vice president of Casio's Timepiece Division:"Casio's newest timepieces are trendy, stylish and extremely functional. The Baby-G's are the perfect accessory for today's busy lifestyle, matchingsupreme style with advanced features that make your life easier. The new squareBaby-G's are just the right thing to add a dash of rogue style to the latest springlooks. On the flip side they can add the necessary polish to an outfit for the boardroom. As versatile as they are chic, they're a sign of the times. It's hip to be square!"While I'm pretty sure these words were actually written by someone in PR and/orMarketing as opposed to being uttered by David Johnson himself, I wouldn't disagreewith them. Now let's have a look at features. Features of the new Casio Baby-GPre-programmed auto calendar.Countdown timer.Electro-luminescent backlight.Water resistant to 100 meters (10 ATM, 10 BAR, or 330 feet).Multi-function alarm (set a date as well as a time -- nice!).Stopwatch.Shock resistant. All the essential, packaged up in stylish new cases with either leather or resinbands. The new square Baby-G's can be had for between $79 and $99.Additional ResourcesBG180Series on Casio's site.BG184Series on Casio's site.
